What to say when leaving a cafe in Korea

15-min Lesson Goals

What should you say when leaving a cafe or establishment in Korea?

Here are some Korean phrases that you need to know! Sound like a native with these phrases!

A Bit of a Lesson

1. 수고하세요!

  • 수고하다 = to work hard (do hard work)
  • ...하세요 = Do ...

It's like saying "Keep up the good work!"

Technically speaking, you should not use '수고하다' to higher-ups, but no-one will be offended if you use it when exiting a restaurant (식당), cafe (카페), or convenience store (편의점)!

2. 감사합니다.

"Thank you!" - quick and easy!

3. 안녕히 계세요.

  • 안녕히 = peacefully
  • 계시다 = to stay (formal)

"Goodbye" - this is another common phrase you can use!

4. 또 올게요!

  • 또 = Again
  • 오다 = to come

"I'll be back!" - If you really like a place so much that you decide to become a regular, let the owners know you'll be back with this phrase!
